SM Krishna to return home today after attending G-15 Summit

The External affairs minister S.M. Krishna will conclude his four-day visit to Tehran today. He is expected to meet Iranian president Mahmoud Ahamadinejad before leaving for New Delhi. Monday the External affairs minister met his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki in Tehran on the sidelines of G-15 Summit to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations. The spokesperson of External Affairs ministry described the meeting as very good, friendly and useful. The spokesperson told reports that regular high level exchanges were imparting momentum to bilateral relationship and they were looking forward to the 16th Indo-Iran Joint Commission Meeting to be held in New Delhi shortly. The Iranian foreign minister during the talks recalled India’s contribution to Non Aligned Movement and other multi lateral organisations. The external affairs minister also met his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro Moros where both leaders expressed satisfaction on growing economic relations between two countries. Mr. Krishna also had brief interactions with Deputy Prime minister and foreign minister of Belarus and industry minister of Indonesia. Earlier addressing the 14th G-15 Summit in Tehran Monday, the External Affairs Minister sought comprehensive reform of international financial institutions to enable enhanced capital flows and infrastructure investment in the developing markets. S.M. Krishna said that efforts should continue to make these institutions more inclusive. The external affairs minister met Iranian Parliament’s speaker Ali Larijani and visited the Gurudwara in Tehran and met members of the Indian community on Sunday. Meanwhile the 14 summit of G-15 Summit concluded in Tehran yesterday with a call for improving south-south cooperation to achieve global equality and help member states realize their full potentials, which would also enhance the bargaining power of the Group in dealing with developed countries. Sri Lanka has taken over the chair of G 15 from Iran.
