The External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna is leaving on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka on Thursday. He will participate in the joint commission meeting to review the progress of bilateral projects.The joint commission will be chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries with a focus to implement the agenda set during President Rajpaksa's visit to India in June this year. Official sources said that Mr. Krishna, during his stay in the island nation, will inaugurate the Indian Consulate in the coastal city of Hambantota.He will also participate in a ceremony to begin the pilot project of one thousand houses for internally displaced Tamils in northern part of the country. New Delhi has pledged to construct and rebuild fifty thousand such houses for the internally displaced population.A five hundred crore rupee package has also been announced by New Delhi for rehabilitating three lakh displaced Tamils. In reply to a question on political solution to vexed Tamil issue, official sources said that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has emphasised on a meaningful devolution package. Replying to another question on whether allegations of Sri Lankan Navy firing on Indian fishermen, strained into their territory will be discussed, the sources said the issue will figure in the talks between the two foreign ministers.
