SLPL to go ahead with tournament with or without participation of Indian players

The Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) would go ahead as planned even without the participation of Indian players, Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) secretary said on Friday."We will go ahead with the tournament with or without Indian players," SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told reporters in Colombo.Ranatunga was responding to media reports which quoted BCCI officials as saying that the Indian players would not be taking part in SLPL due to crammed schedule. He, however, said that SLC had not been officially intimated about the Indian players not taking part in SLPL.SLC is hoping to get those Indian cricketers who won't make it to the national team. . "BCCI is not convinced. But we are going ahead with the league this time," a SLC official said. The inaugural edition of the SLPL (Sri Lankan Premiere League) is scheduled to begin on August 10 and end on August 31 , ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in September-October. The SLPL matches will be played at the Premadasa stadium in Colombo and the Pallekele stadium in Kandy. 7 teams – Basnahira Bears, Kandurata Kites, Nagenahira Nagas, Ruhuna Rhinos, Uthura Oryxes, Uva Unicorns, Wayamba Wolves – will participate and will be allowed a maximum of 6 overseas players in each squad, while each team can field a maximum of 4 overseas players.The SLPL was cancelled last year primarily due to non participation of the Indian players.
