In World Cup Football today, Slovenia defeated Algeria by a solitary goal. The all-important goal in the Group 'C' match, played in the north-eastern South African city of Polokwane, came in the 79th minute though Slovenia Skipper Robert Koren.

The win is historic for Slovenia, as it is their first victory in World Cup Finals. The Central Europeans had earlier figured in three World Cup matches.

Slovenia now top Group 'C' with three points. England and United States have one point each after playing a drawn game.
