SL PM presented 18th Constitution Amendment Bill to Parliament

Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne presented the 18th Amendment Bill to the parliament today, which among other changes seeks to remove the barrier for the incumbent President to seek a third term for the office. The proposed Amendments which will bring about certain fundamental changes in the 1978 Constitution will be debated and later put to vote.Besides the parliamentarians of the ruling combine, members of the opposition UNP who have pledged their support to the Bill were present in Parliament. The UNP which has decided to boycott the debate and voting on the Bill staged a protest outside.
