SL army makes arrangement for Fonseka's health consultation

Sri Lankan Army in response to concerns expressed on General Sarath Fonseka’s health condition made arrangements today morning for him to receive consultations from a Senior Chest Physician, attached to the Chest Clinic, Colombo National Hospital in the presence of Medical Officers in attendance at Navy Headquarters where General Fonseka is detained.<br/><br/>A press statement by the Sri Lankan Army said that the move was initiated following allegations made by Mrs Anoma Fonseka and other spokespersons, referring to an alleged ‘deterioration’ of General Fonseka’s health.<br/><br/>As per the Army, the chest specialist who attended to General Fonseka this morning has however determined that General Fonseka has not been afflicted with any new condition as alleged, and he could still continue with his routine medication.<br/><br/>A few days ago, Mrs Anoma Fonseka, wife of Sarath Fonseka, in a letter to Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya sought his mediation to get the services of a medical specialist to examine General Sarath Fonseka.<br/><br/>The Army expressed deep regrets over continuing baseless allegations on the medical services, being provided to General Fonseka and earnestly appeals to all concerned parties to refrain from making utterances of defamatory nature that belittle the dignity of medical professionals in the Navy.<br/><br/>According to International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mrs Anoma Fonnseka has appealed to them to intervene on her behalf alleging that her husband is being detained at Navy headquarters in conditions that are harmful to his health.
