In Bihar, the sixth phase of Panchayat elections passed off peacefully today amidst tight security arrangements . Election was held at 906 gram panchayats in 58 blocks of the state. AIR Patna correspondent reports that no major incident of violence was reported from any parts of the state. A large number of voters excercised their right of franchise despite scorching heat. There were no reports of major incidents of violence except a few skirmishes between rival groups in Araria Siwan, Darbhanga, Nalanda and Siwan districts . In Aurangabad bogus voting attempt was foiled after police resorted to firing .No one was injured in this incident and the situation is under control. Over eight hundred hundred persons have been arrested as a preventive measures during poll .About 77 thousand rupees were recovered from the possession of arrested persons.The Panchayat elections will conclude on May 18 after the remaining four more phases. The seventh phase of elections will be held on the 9th of this month.
