Six VP nominations received; UPA, BJP yet to name nominees

Six nominations were received till yesterday for the Vice Presidential polls. The Returing Officer for the Vice Presidential polls, Mr. T.K Vishwanathan informed that one nomination has been rejected for non submission of certified copies of documents. Out of the total six nominations filed, three were from Delhi, two from Karnataka and one from Madhya pradesh.
Our correspondent reports, the ruling UPA and the Main opposition BJP are yet to name their candidates for the Vice Presidential polls. The notification for the Vice Presidential polls were issued by the Election Commission on the 6th of this month. Nominations can be filed till 20th of this month .
The Vice-President is elected by the members of the Electoral College consisting of the members of both Houses of Parliament in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. The nominated Members of both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are also eligible to be included in the Electoral College.

The tenure of the current Vice President Md. Hamid Ansari expires on the tenth of next month. The polls are scheduled for the 7th August, and results will be known on the same day.
