Six people killed after gelatin sticks explode in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka

<span style="color: #222222;">Six people were killed when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in Hirenagaveli village in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka  today. The incident comes close on the heels of a similar blast at a quarry site in Shivamogga on January 22, which had left six dead.<br />''<br />''Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Mr. Modi said he is pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. Mr Modi prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.<br />''<br />''Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai who visited the accident site has ordered a CID investigation against the incident. He said the owners, officials and police found responsible for the incident will be punished. He also said that the Chief Minister has announced a compensation of five lakh rupees to the families of the workers who died in the blast today. A case has been registered in Persandra police station and two persons are said to be arrested in the case. The Congress state President D K Shivakumar has asked the government to enforce safety measures in the stone quarries as this is the second incident in one month.</span><br />
