Madhya Pradesh police have arrested six persons in Datia’s Swiss woman rape case. IG Chambal Range M S Afzal on Sunday informed in Datia that police has recovered mobile and laptop of Swiss couple. He said accused are being interrogated in different police stations of Datia district.
Earlier police had detained about twenty people for questioning. Most of them have now been freed.
Switzerland has said it is profoundly shocked by the gangrape of a Swiss tourist in India and demanded that those responsible for the tragic incident be quickly identified and punished.
The Swiss foreign ministry said it's diplomats in India are in contact with the local authorities.
A Swiss woman was gang-raped by seven men in the Datia district Friday late night. The woman was cycling along with her husband from Orchha to Agra.
The couple was camping near Jhadia village when seven men allegedly looted them and raped the woman.
A case has been registered against seven unidentified people in Datia Civil Lines police station.
AIR correspondent reports, this incident has dented Madhya Pradesh’s image as growing tourist hub. The main opposition Congress has announced state-wide agitation on Monday to protest the growing number of rape cases in the state.
