Situation tense in Bareily, 20 shops torched

In Uttar Pradesh, 20 shops were torched by a mob today despite curfew being clamped in communal riot hit areas in Bareilly. Police said, fire tenders were rushed to the sites.<br/><br/>More areas of Bareily city have been brought under curfew as the situation continued to be tense in localities which witnessed communal violence. Curfew has been extended to Subhash Nagar police station area. With this curfew has been imposed in five police station areas of the city. Nearly 20 people, including an SP and some policemen were injured in the violent incidents there. Educational institutes have been closed.Officials said, the situation is tense but under control.<br/><br/>One helicopter has been deployed for surveillance in the Curfew bound areas of Subash nagar, Premnagar, Kotwali, Bardari and Quilla police station. Our correspondent reports that, more than 300 persons have been booked under various section related to violent incidents. Extra forces have already been deployed in all the sensitive areas. 17 companies of PAC and two companies of RAF have already put on job in disturbed town. At least 9 extra police officers and 5 civil officers have also been placed in Bareilly to help the administration. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, BJP today constituted a three member committee headed by Mrs. Menka Gandhi to enquire into the Bareily riot case. The party office in New Delhi said the committee will leave for Bareily tomorrow. Other members of the committee are Yogi Adityanath the member of Parliament from Gorakhpur and Rajendra Agarwal the member of parliament from Meerut.
