Situation in NIT, Srinagar returns to normal: Rajnath tells LS

Home Minister Rajnath Singh told the Lok Sabha today that the situation in NIT, Srinagar has returned to normal. Replying to supplementaries in the question hour, he said all non-local students have now returned and resumed their studies. A three-member central team has visited the institution to assess the situation. NIT Srinagar has set up a fact-finding committee to examine the circumstances that led to the unrest. It is addressing students' grievances. <br/><br/>Mr. Singh said, the Jammu and Kashmir government has established a round-the-clock helpline to address the security concerns of student in the NIT campus. A joint mechanism of the local administration, Police and NIT has been put in place to prevent any untoward incident in future. The Home Minister added that the students who had missed their examinations have been allowed to appear in the tests at the end of next month.
