Situation in Kashmir valley improving: Govt

The government today said as the situation in the Kashmir valley is improving, further withdrawals of central Para military forces from there are being considered. In a written reply in Lok Sabha today, Mr. Kamat said that it has been the government's endeavor to reduce the deployment CPMFs in a graded manner to entrust more and more responsibility to the state force for maintenance of law and order. He said ten battalions of central para military forces were withdrawn from the valley during 2009. He said that the deployment of these forces in the valley is subject to continuous appraisal and review and force levels in the state are maintained in close consultations with the state government.AIR correspondent says that following a series of incidence of violence in summer last year, a number of decisions were taken at an All Party Meeting on Jammu and Kashmir convened by the Prime Minister in September last year. The government later approved an eight point programme under which a group of interlocutors was appointed for a sustain dialogue with all sections of people in the state.
