Situation in J&K remains by and large peaceful

The situation in the Kashmir valley by and large remained peaceful barring a few minor incidents of stone pelting in Srinagar. However, shops in most of the market remained closed and public transport which to some extent were back on roads yesterday was not seen plying in most areas of the city. <br/><br/>Petrol pumps were also closed in the city causing a lot of difficulties to the commuters. Our correspondent says that economic experts are estimating a loss of 150 crore rupees a day because of the situation.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah today held a meeting on dministrative secretaries and asked them to redouble their efforts to make up for the lost time due to law and order problem and redressed public grievances. He also gave direction for initiating preparedness drive for holding local bodies and panchayat elections as per schedule this year.<br/><br/>The full interview with Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah will be broadcast in our weekly ‘Countrywide’ programme tonight.
