Situation in Goalpara district slowly returning to normal

In Assam, the overall situation in the Goalpara district is slowly returning to normal. No fresh incident has been reported from anywhere in the district since last two days. As a precautionary measure, the district administration continued night curfew in four police station areas of Krishnai, Doodhnoi, Dhupdhora and Rongjuli. Army and over ten companies of paramilitary forces are maintaining a strict vigil on the miscreants and rumour mongers in the vulnerable areas of the Assam-Meghalaya boundary. As many as 34 thousand affected people are still taking shelter in 39 relief camps set up at Balimara, Matiya and Doodhnoi area in Goalpara district. The district authority has constituted peace committees in the affected areas involving local administration and different community leaders. The State Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi is visiting the affected areas of the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary for on-the-spot assessment of the situation today. He is scheduled to attend a review meeting with the top district and security officials besides meeting the relief camp inmates.
