Situation improves in violence hit areas of Assam

The situation in the Lower Assam is limping back to normal. Day curfew has been relaxed in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Barpeta Road. Security forces are maintaining strict vigil in these areas. Assam government has intensified relief and rehabilitation measures in the violence hit areas. State Home Secretary said so far land documents of over 10,000 people have been verified. It may be recalled that after the verification of land ownership, the displaced people will be rehabilitated. As of now, two lakh 46 thousand people have taken shelter at 219 camps.

Temporary shelters of 120 square feet are being set up to provide shelter to displace people at their villages after the verification of land documents. The main idea of setting up these houses is to provide temporary shelter to those people whose houses were completely torched. The cost of single such will cost five thousand. Tata Institute of Social Science and state’s Public Works Department are providing technical support to set up it. Around 12 thousand houses are being set up in Kokrajhar district.
