Sitharaman inaugurated orientation programme for establishment of SFPCs

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today inaugurated the orientation programme for establishment of Spices Farmers Producer Companies, SFPCs and buyer seller meet at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. The move is a Government of India's initiative to benefit the small and marginal spice farmers in the North Eastern States. <br/><br/>On this occasion, Ms Sitharaman said, Farmers Producer Companies, under Companies Act, will help the small and marginalized farmers in the state to get better prices for their produce. She said, SFPCs will help to address the challenges faced by agriculture sector, mainly with regards to mechanization, technology transfer and adoption of collective scientific cultivation, in addition to providing improved access to inputs and markets.<br/><br/>The minister said, the formation of SFPCs will encourage the farmers to increase the productivity of the spice crops and to adopt cultivation and processing of an agribusiness entity.<br/> <br/>The programme was also attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Minister Wangki Lowang and State Minister of Power & Industries Tamiyo Taga.
