SIT submits progress report in Ishrat case

In Gujarat, the special investigation team probing the 2004 police encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others, today submitted its progress report in the case in a sealed cover to the High Court. The report was submitted in the High Court registry ahead of hearing in the case, scheduled on the 8th of this month. In January this year, the court had directed the SIT to submit its progress report every two months and update it about the status of investigation in the case. The court had also appointed Y S Lakhani as amicus curie in the case. The SIT was formed by the Gujarat High Court last year to probe the encounter of Mumbai-based Ishrat and three others by crime branch officials near Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
