SIT on black money recovers nearly Rs 130 cr from educational institutions

The Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigating Team (SIT) on black money has recovered nearly 130 crore rupees from three educational institutions in the last fortnight. Vice-Chairman of the SIT, Justice (Retired) Arijit Pasayat told this to reporters at a meeting in Cuttack yesterday. He said, SIT has made certain recommendations to the Union government to tap black money inside the country. Justice Pasayat also said, at least 120 people, whose names had appeared in Panama Papers' list, have already deposed before the SIT after they were issued notices. He said, recording of statements of around 250 NRIs, whose names have appeared in the list, is taking time.<br/><br/>Justice Pasayat said, SIT has submitted four reports in the Supreme Court till now and the fifth report will be submitted in the first week of September.<br/><br/>Director General of Police, officials of the Crime Branch, Enforcement Directorate, Mines and Income Tax departments from Odisha were among those who attended the meeting.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that talking to newsmen, Justice Pasayat said SIT has made certain recommendations to the Union government to tap the black money inside the country. He said that at least 120 people whose names had appeared in Panama Papers' list have already deposed before the SIT after they were issued notices. The SIT Vice-Chairman also said recording of statements of around 250 non-resident Indians, whose names have appeared in the list, is taking time.
