Sirhind Fateh March gets rousing welcome in Patiala

The 'Sirhind Fateh March' on its last leg was accorded a rousing welcome today at Shambhu in Patiala district by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and others when it entered Punjab today after covering a distance of nearly 2500 kilometers from Nanded in Maharashtra. <br/><br/>The march is being organised in connection with the tercentenary celebrations of 'Sirhind Fateh Diwas' dedicated to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur(A Sikh Warrior), who established the first Sikh rule in Punjab after defeating the Moghuls and chasing them out of Sirhind town. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that this is an opportune time to commemorate this historical event as country is free now.<br/><br/>Paying glowing tributes to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur who avenged the martyrdom of younger 'Sahibzadas' (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh and ransacked the Mughal provincial capital, Sirhind, Chief Minister said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, a great warrior is still revered as one of the most hallowed martyrs of the 'Khalsa Panth'. <br/><br/>This Fateh March will reach Sirhind on 14th May the day on which Sirhind was won by Banda Bahadur in 1710.Celebrations have started today at Fateh Garh Sahib and Chappar Chirri in Mohali disrict where war was fought in which Mughals were defeated by Banda.
