The Centre today stated that the huge transaction cost and time incurred in export procedure will be mitigated as exporters will be issued single customs permission for their consignments that will be valid at all the 34 shipment ports. This move precedes the earlier practice of requiring individual custom permissions which had to be obtained separately from each station so as to allow for dispatch of shipment. In a communiqu’ issued to custom authorities, the revenue department stated that a single factory stuffing (container) valid for all for all the customs stations will be issued as opposed to customs station-wise permission. However, exporters would have to furnish a list of ports to the Central Board of Excise and Customs they want to dispatch their goods from. The move was prompted by a task force led by minister of state for commerce and industries Jyotiraditya Scindia who had recommended a uniform permit regime for exporters for all the Customs stations.Transaction cost constitutes to 7-8 per cent of total export value in the country at present. Federation of Indian Export Organsiation (FIEO) director general Ajay Sahai observed that the move is beneficial as it will not only cut expenditure but save time.
