Singapore Open: Indian shuttler PV Sindhu clinches Women's Single title; Prez, PM Modi congratulates shuttler

In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has clinched Women's Single title of Singapore Open. The Two-time Olympic medalist defeated Wang Zhi Yi of China, 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 to claim her maiden title in Singapore Open and third title this year after registering wins in Korea Open and Swiss Open.

It took her just 12 minutes to wrap up the opening game which included winning 13 consecutive points. Wang Zhi however fought back in superb fashion to draw level as he gained the second game. The decider started on a nail-biting note before she gained a five-point lead at the interval. The Chinese looked to fight back but eventually fell short in the end.

President and Vice President have congratulated ace shuttler PV Sindhu for winning Singapore Open 2022 tournament for the first time. In a tweet, President Ram Nath Kovind said, P V Sindhu's resilience and enthusiasm are inspiring. Mr Kovind hoped that she will continue to bring glory and pride to the country.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, the entire nation is proud of P V Sindhu's stupendous achievement. Mr Naidi wished Sindhu for her future endeavours.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated ace shuttler PV Sindhu on winning her first-ever Singapore Open title. In a tweet, Mr Modi said she has yet again demonstrated her exceptional sporting talent and achieved success. He said it is a proud moment for the country and will also give inspiration to upcoming players.
