Singapore executes 2 foreigners for drug trafficking

Singapore today executed two foreigners convicted of drug trafficking. The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a statement that a Nigerian and a Malaysian were hanged today, a day-after their last minute appeals were rejected by the the country's highest court. <br/><br/>CNB said, Nigerian national, Chijioke Stephen Obioha, convicted of trafficking of cannabis had his death sentence at Changi Prison Complex. It also confirmed the execution of a Malaysian Devendran Supramaniam, who was convicted of trafficking heroin. <br/><br/>Singapore takes a strong stand against crime and imposes the death penalty on offences such as murder and drug trafficking. But human rights groups, which have called on Singapore to abolish capital punishment, condemned the execution.
