In Gujarat, members of the Sindhi Community are celebrating Cheti Chand, as New Year today. The day also marks the birthday of Jhulelal- the river deity. The huge truck and musical band procession from Panch Kuva area of Ahmedabad paraded over 80 floats depicting the rich cultural heritage and history of the Sindhi society. The priest of Jagannath Temple Mahant Rameshwar Das had flagged off the procession. Special cultural programs are also being organized at the Sabarmati River Front this evening. AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that about 15 lakh Sindhis, migrants from Sindh Province after the partition are also contributing in the socio-economic growth of the State.
