Excessive fluoride in ground water has been a great cause of concern in many parts of Karnataka. Government has been taking various measures to supply edible drinking water at these places. But a small village near Bangalore has benefited from a simple fluoride treatment plant developed locally by a professor teaching in an engineering college. A solar thermal water purification system installed in Dandiganahalli in the Koramangala Gram Panchayat limits near Bangalore is providing fluoride free water to the villagers. The greatest feature of this system is that it does not require any fuel or heater and functions on solar power. This enables one to install this system in remote villages where there is no electricity.
