Simon Taufel wins five consecutive ICC Umpire of the Year awards

Australian Simon Taufel, a winner of five consecutive ICC Umpire of the Year awards, and Pakistan's Aleem Dar were appointed as the on-field officials for the World Cup finals between India and Sri Lanka. The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai tomorrow. New Zealand's Jeff Crowe has been named the match referee. England's Ian Gould and Steve Davis of Australia will be the third and fourth umpires respectively. Meanwhile, both India and Sri Lanka teams are suffering injury problem. India's Ashish Nehra may miss Saturday's World Cup final against SriLanka owing to a finger injury. Even though the BCCI is yet to make an official statement in this regard, team manager Rajib Biswal said the left-arm seamer has fractured the middle-finger of his right hand during Wednesday's semifinal match against Pakistan in Mohali. He said that efforts are being made to get the bowler match-fit through rehabilitation programme but added that if he does not recover in time, he will be ruled out. Sri Lanka are also flying in veteran left arm swing bowler Chaminda Vaas and young off spinner Suraj Randiv as cover for the injured Angelo Mathews and Muttiah Muralitharan in their squad for the World Cup final against India on 2nd April. Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss said at a media conference in Mumbai that Mathews and Muralitharan picked up a a couple of niggles in their last match against New Zealand on March 29 in Colombo.
