In Sikkim, after a gap of more than 20 days since the devastating earthquake jolted the State last month, all the schools and colleges resumed their classes from today. AIR Gangtok correspondent reports that alternative arrangements have been made to hold regular classes in some seven hundred eighty government schools which were damaged during the last month’s earthquakeThe State government is keen to make up for the lost days as the classes in all the fourteen hundred government and three hundred private schools had to be cancelled in the wake of the earthquake since the very next day. The nine member Central Assessment Team led by Mr. Shambhu Singh, currently touring the State, has assured that pre-fabricated structures will be made available wherever the school buildings have been totally collapsed.On the other hand,, a yet another Central Team consisting of three structural engineers is reaching Gangtok in a short while from now. Meanwhile, efforts are on to restore the badly damaged Mangan-Chungthang road in the North district by the BRO. The job is expected to be completed by this evening. However, since the Gangtok-Nathula JN Road too is still out of bounds for the tourists, this year’s tourists season in the State has yet not taken off.
