The Sikkim Government has ordered closure of two controversial hydro-electric projects being undertaken in Yuksom area under the Tashiding State Legislative Assembly Constituency in West Sikkim district.According to an official release issued in Gangtok today,the State Government has ordered the closure of the 99 MW Ting Ting and 96 MW Lethang hydro-electric projects in public interest with immediate effect.Our Gangtok correspondent reports that this is for the second time that the Sikkim Government has decided to close ongoing power -projects in the wake of public protests.Earlier, it was the Rathong Chu Hydel Project which had been scrapped by the Pawan Chamling Government in the year 1997 to respect popular sentiments.
