Taking a lesson from the widespread damage and destruction in the 18th September Earthquake, the Sikkim Government is set to create its own Earthquake Management and Relief Fund to deal with such eventualities in the future. A government resolution to this effect, brought by the Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling, was unanimously adopted by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly today.The amount for the Fund will be generated through compulsory contributions from various power developers, industrial units and commercial establishments applying before the State Government for allotment of lands .The Sikkim Legislative Assembly also passed the Vote on Accounts worth 1109 crore rupees for the three months of the next financial year and second supplementary demands for grants totaling 438 crore rupees for the current financial year. The House also passed two new Bills presented by the State Government on the last day of its two day long sitting.
