The Sikkim Government has formed a six member expert group comprising of eminent geologists and seismologists who will go to Lachung , Lachen, Chungthang and higher reaches of the North District on Monday. They will prepare a report on the land stability of the area and submit a comprehensive report to the government for necessary action. Meanwhile, four army mountaineers along with 400 kgs of rations have been air dropped at Chungthang and Lachen respectively to assist in the ongoing rescue operations.AIR correspondent reports, two LHS, 4 Cheetahs and 3Mi17 choppers made have a number of sorties in North Sikkim for relief and rescue operations today. On the other hand, four labourers were swept away in a landslide at Vong in North district on Saturday. The tragedy occurred when a group of seventeen earthquake affected labourers, was crossing the stretch between Toong and Rel Khola, on its way to Mangan from Chungthang.A two member Relief Study Team constituted by the Bhartiya Janta Party made an aerial survey of the worst affected northern part of the district and interacted with the people at Lachen and Chungthang. Meanwhile, the Chief Minster Mr. Pawan Chamling paid a day long visit to the West district headquarter Geyzing on Sunday, the first since the last Sunday.
