The Sikkim Governor Mr. Balmiki Prasad Singh has called for establishing a small formation of the Indian Air Force in Sikkim to meet out the emergencies in the wake of natural disasters like the last year’s devastating earthquake, more effectively .He said that such an air formation can be easily materialized after completion of the first ever airport of this land locked State at Pakyong near Gangtok in December next year.Mr. Singh was speaking on the occasion of the presentation of two decorative guns by the Army to the Raj Bhavan in Gangtok.He also asked for opening of a Sainik School in Sikkim.The GOC of the 33 Corps Leutinent General K.Surendranath formally handed over the guns to him.AIR Gangtok correspondent reports that the 5.5 inches U.K made Howitzer guns, installed at the entrance of the Raj Bhavan, date back to 1941 and had been de-commissioned from the Army in 1988.
