Sikkim gears up to host Khelo India University Games Boxing Championships from Feb 25-29

Sikkim is abuzz with anticipation as it prepares to host the Khelo India University Games Ashtalaxmi Boxing Men's category from February 25 to 29. The event will take place at the indoor gymnasium hall in Paljor Stadium complex, organized by the State Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, in collaboration with Sikkim University and funded by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).<br />''Speaking at a press conference, Arjuna Awardee boxer Jaslal Pradhan, appointed as the Competition Manager by SAI, revealed that 104 boxers from eight universities would compete across 13 weight categories. Each weight category will feature eight boxers, with officials and volunteers from the Boxing Federation of India and Sports & Youth Affairs Department overseeing the event.<br />''The Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association will provide technical support, with four qualified referees from Sikkim serving as referee cum judges.<br />''The Khelo India University Games is renowned as a premier sporting event in the country, showcasing the top eight boxers in each weight category competing against each other. Sikkim's selection as the host reflects its successful hosting of the 6th Youth Men National Boxing Championship last year.<br />''Additional Director of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Dr. RB Biswakarma, highlighted that this is the fourth edition of the Khelo India University Games, featuring 20 sports disciplines. Pugilists from 200 universities will be participating, with only the top eight in each weight category qualifying for the quarter-final round to be held in Sikkim. Dr. Biswakarma emphasized the honor bestowed upon Sikkim to host such a prestigious competition in the state.
