In Sikkim, the death toll in the massive earthquake, that had rocked not only this Himalayan State a large part of the country as well, has now risen to Fifty three. The figure in the worst affected North Sikkim district has risen to forty from yesterday’s figure of twenty four. Relief and rescue operations are continuing on a war footing. The State Governor Mr. Balmiki Prasad Singh has called a high level meeting with the State Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling and top officials at Raj Bhavan this afternoon to have an up date of the situation. The General Officer Commanding -in- Chief of the Eastern Command of the Army Leuitenent General Bikram Singh called on the Governor and Chief Minister and assured all help in relief and rescue operations.
