Signs of naxalites regrouping in Punjab, says Punjab DGP

The Director General of Punjab Police, Mr P S Gill has said that there are signs of regrouping of naxalites in Punjab as is evident from the posters put up by them at couple of places in the Malwa belt of the state but they are at a starting stage. <br/><br/>They will not be allowed to raise their heads to disturb the hard earned peace.<br/><br/>Mr Gill said some of the organizations under various names especially BKU (Ugrahan) group are raising social issues to entice the youth to join naxalism, however, police is keeping a watch on such groups and 8-9 arrests have already been made in the state.<br/>Mr Gill who was in Jalandhar, today, said this during a press conference after addressing a meeting of distt. police officers on crime and law and order situation.<br/><br/>Assuring the public that Punjab is peaceful and the state police is capable of handling any situation, the DGP said that in the last six months 63 persons related to various terrorist organizations including Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), KLF and KCF have been arrested and 17 modules of terrorists have been broken in the state. He also said that the police is also investigating the funding of Human Rights Organisations.<br/><br/>He said the RDX and other explosive material recovered by the force at various places in the state in the last couple of months is coming from Pakistan side through Punjab border.<br/>Regarding the arrest of Baba Bakshish Singh, a militant having links with ISI of Pakistan, Mr Gill said that police is behind him and an award has also been announced to nab him.<br/><br/>Denying any political pressure on police and the force is sufficient in numbers at all levels, however, he said that the cases related to arson in the aftermath of the killing of Sachkhand Ballan Deputy Chief in Vienna, last year, are still under investigation.
