Sidhu urges for extension of DMIC upto Punjab

Demanding the extension of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) upto Punjab, the Amritsar MP, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu has said that all political parties from Punjab should raise this issue with the Centre for inclusion of the state in this mega project. Haryana is one of the seven states included in this project for which estimated investment required to create infrastructure in the first phase is 4 lakh 25 thousand crore rupees.<br/><br/>He said that Punjab cannot sustain on Agriculture sector for long and manufacturing sector is the reality of the future. A blue-print is required with a vision for the overall growth of the state. Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar on Monday, Mr. Sidhu said that besides raising this issue in Parliament, he would also speak to the Prime Minister as he also belongs to Punjab.<br/><br/>Mr. Sidhu said that in the 11th Five-year Plan, Punjab’s total growth target is just 5.9 per cent which is much less than its neighboring states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. If Punjab gets included in the DMIC, its overall growth rate would increase.<br/><br/> Asking the Centre to stop playing politics with Punjab which is and has done so much for the Country in many spheres, Mr. Sidhu said that if Punjab would not be included in the map of industrial corridor, it would prove bad for the state in the long run.
