Sibal unveils Draft National Policy on IT

An Electronic Delivery of Services Bill to ensure timely delivery of public services is being brought in the Winter Session of Parliament. Announcing this, Communications and Information Technology minister Kapil Sibal said that the passage of the Bill will also help in dealing with the problems of corruption.

Unveiling the Draft National policy on Information Technology, 2011, Mr Sibal advocated public procurement will be through electronic mode for greater transparency. He said the policy aims at maximally leveraging the power of information technology to address the economic and developmental challenges the country faces. The minister said a pool of 10 million additional skilled manpower in Information Communication Technology, ICT sector would be created. Mr Sibal said the government is keen to make at least one individual in every household e-literate.

He said Information technology will be used in a major way in social sector initiatives like Education, Health and Rural Development to promote equity and quality.
