Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Kapil Sibal has called for an adequate balance between needs of privacy of individual and genuine security concerns of state while dealing with challenges of cyber security.
Addressing a summit in Finland, Mr. Sibal said that cyber attacks pose serious challenges in terms of information security. He cautioned that such attacks can bring to halt not only big nuclear plants but also globally interconnected financial institutions.
According to an official release issued in New Delhi, the Minister appealed to the global community to collaborate and evolve global protocols in security of information and network. He assured that India stands committed to contribute and cooperate with international community on this issue.
Talking of the remarkable growth in telecom services in India, Mr. Sibal said that mobile connections in the country have grown from 3 million in 2000 to 870 million in 2011. He added that the the National Optical Fibre will connect 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats in next three years and the National e-Governance Plan will help in empowering citizens of the country.
