Sibal announces setting up of National Accreditation Authority for all Universities

Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal has announced that a National Accreditation Authority would be set up soon for all universities in the country. Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad last evening, he said the Group of Ministers had already cleared the draft bill for creating the National Accreditation Authority and it would be put before the Cabinet soon for approval and later it would be tabled in the Parliament. Stating that there would not be any more deemed universities, the Minister said all the existing universities are required to go through the accreditation process and meet the stringent standards that would be put in place.<br/><br/>After attending a meeting of Vice Chancellors of Central Universities, Mr Sibal announced setting up of a Core Committee of Vice Chancellors of seven Central Universities to suggest ways to improve quality of higher education in the country. He said, during its three-year tenure, the committee would fix benchmarks for the universities.
