The five-day Winter Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is beginning at Dispur tomorrow. According to official sources, three Bills are to be laid on the table of the Assembly during the Session. A Bill seeking to make incidents of violence against the doctor on-duty a non-bailable offence, with punishment ranging from three years’ imprisonment or heavy fine is likely to be tabled in the House.The need for such a Bill has been felt following the increase in cases of violence by irate attendants of patients off late in the State.AIR Correspondent reports that the main opposition parties- Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and BJP have chalked out strategies to corner the ruling Congress Government on the issues relating to construction of big dams, updating of National Register of Citizens, doubtful voters and the problems of farmers in marketing of agricultural produce.
