Shooter Jitu Rai has clinched India's first Gold, and second medal of the Incheon Asian Games. In the Men's 50-metre Pistol event finals a short while ago, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Gold medalist shot a total of 186.2 points to beat Vietnam's Phuong Nguyen and bag the coveted yellow metal. Other Indians in the event, Omkar Singh and Om Prakash had failed to clear the qualification round.In the team event of the same category, the trio of Jitu Rai, Om Prakash, Omkar Singh finished fourth. China took the Gold creating a Games record.Shooter Shweta Chaudhary had, earlier, opened India's account by winning a Bronze in the 10-metre Air Pistol event. She scored 176.4 to finish third. Heena Sidhu and Malaika Goel could not qualify for the finals. China claimed the Gold in the event, with Korea winning the Silver.In the Team event, the Indian trio of Shweta, Heena and Malaika finished fifth.The Qualification of the Men's Trap event is underway. Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Mansher Singh and Darius Chenai are the Indians participating in the event.In Badminton, the Indian Women's team sailed into the quarterfinals. Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and the pair of Siki Reddy and Pradnya Gadre won three of the 5 matches against Macau to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead, and a place in the last-8 stage.The Men's team, comprising P. Kashyap, will take on Korea in the Round-of-16 later in the day.In Tennis, the Indian Women's team will take on Oman today.In Squash, Dipika Pallikal, Joshana Chinappa and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu are among the Indians who will be seen in action in the Singles pre-quarterfinals.Three weightlifters, who shone in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, will vie for top honours today. Sukhen Dey will be trying his luck in the Men's 56kg division, while Sanjita K. and Mirabai Chanu will figure in the Women's 48kg section. Sukhen Dey and Sanjita K. had won Gold in Glasgow, with Mirabai bagging Silver.Three Indian Judokas — Navjot Chana, Shushila Devi and Kalpana Devi — will play their preliminary matches.Basketball, Cycling, Wushu (a sport derived from Chinese martial arts), Equestrian that means Riding, Rowing and Volleyball are the events which will also witness the Indian participation today.
