Shooter Jitu Rai clinches India's first Gold and second medal of Incheon Asian Games

On the opening day of 17th Aisan Games at Incheon, Indian marksmen brought laurel for the country. A Gold and a Bronze came from the shooting range today. India's aim to surpass the Gold Tally of 14 medals from 2010 Guangzhou Games looks promising with the start India made today. Ace Shooter, Jitu Rai, the Commonwealth Games Gold medallist, Silver medallist from World Championship completed his triple feat by grabbing the Yellow metal in Asiad. He shot a total of 186.2 points in the Men's 50-metre Pistol event for top podium finish. The day started early for India in medals table as Shooter Shweta Chaudhary opened India's medal account by winning a Bronze in the 10-metre Air Pistol event. The star-studded team Indian Women's Badminton, sailed into the quarterfinals. Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and the pair of Siki Reddy and Pradnya Gadre won three of the 5 matches against Macau to surge ahead. The Women's team will now take on Thailand in the quarterfinals today at 3 PM Indian time. However, the Men's team had a tough luck in the team event as they lost to Hosts South Korea 3-Nil in the Round-of-16. The Indian Women's Tennis team also advanced to the second round beating Oman, 3-Nil. From mat, Indian Judokas after a good start in the events fail to move ahead. Navjot Chana bowed out in the Men's 60kg pre-quarterfinals. Indian eves Shushila Devi in 48 kg and Kalpana Thoudam in 52 kg catogery were halted at quarter final stage. In Squash Joshna Chinaapa and Dipika Pallikal's singles pre quarterfinal match is currently underway. Basketball, Cycling, Chinese martial arts Wushu, Equestrian, Rowing and Volleyball are the events which are witnessing the India's participation today.China is currently at the top of the medals tally with 4 Gold and 2 Bronze, while Korea is second with 1 Gold and 2 Silver. With a Gold and a Bronze, India is third.
