Shoot-at-sight order issued in violence hit areas of Saharanpur

In Uttar Pradesh, shoot-at-sight order has been issued in Saharanpur where three persons were killed and 19 injured in violent clashes yesterday between two communities over a land dispute. Officials said, prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC have been invoked in the district and curfew has been clamped in six areas. Police fired rubber bullets to control the situation as mobs went on rampage setting several shops afire.

Trouble began when members of one community started construction work at the site in Kutubsher area in the wee hours yesterday, which was objected to by the other group. 18 additional companies of security forces have been deployed in the troubled areas. Centre has sent around 600 para military force personnel to maintain law and order. Official sources said in New Delhi that the decision to sent the para military forces was taken after Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Uttar Pradesh government has announced financial assistance of 10 lakh rupees each to the next of kin of the three persons killed in the clashes. An official spokesman said 50,000 rupees will be given to the injured. The state government has also sought a report of the entire incident from the district administration.
