Shivratri will be celebrated tomorrow. However, the festival which is most scrupulously observed by the Kashmiri Pandits, are celebrating the Festival from today. AIR Correspondent reports that additional policemen and para-military troops have been deployed at all famous temples of Lord Shiva in the City. Walnuts, whose shape represents the universe, play an important part in Herath rituals of Kashmiri Pandits. Walnuts are filled in earthen pots and it is then filled with water. The water is changed every day of the festival. A big earthen pot, two medium sized earthen pot, two small earthen pot, clay modelled to the shape of elephant trunk and seven bowls are used in Herath ritual and they are known as 'Watuk'. Watuk represents Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Sapta Rishis and other deities.After performing Puja of Watuk throughout the night and visiting nearby Shiv temples , the second day of the Shivratri festival is being celebrated by Kashmiri Pandits as ‘SALAAM’. It is a day of fun and feasting, a sort of Thanksgiving Day when relations, friends and colleagues would exchange greetings. Elders bless the young and children are given some cash as token of love and aashirvaad. All the Shiva temples in Jammu division have been beautifully decorated and Kashmiri Pandits were seen thronging the Shiva temples right from the morning today.
