Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi won the trust vote in Maharashtra Assembly on Saturday. All the BJP MLAs staged a walkout. A total of 169 MLAs voted in favour of the confidence motion while four members abstained. They include two from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, one from CPI(M) and a member of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
''
'' With 105 BJP MLAs absent, zero votes were cast against the motion. Earlier, Congress' Ashok Chavan proposed the trust vote while NCP's Nawab Malik and Shiv Sena's Sunil Prabhu seconded it.
''
'' After winning the floor test, Chief Minister Uddahv Thackeray thanked all the MLAs and the people of Maharashtra. Stating that he is fortunate to be in the House, the Chief Minister said he did feel some pressure as he does not have any experience of working in the assembly.
''
''Dismissing BJP's claim that his swearing-in ceremony violated constitutional norms, Thackeray said it is not Maharashtra's culture that taking the names of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and parents is a crime.
''
'' Speaking to media after staging a walk-out, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said not just the appointment of pro-tem Speaker but the Assembly session also is illegal and unconstitutional. He objected to the appointment of NCP leader Dilip Walse Patil as pro-tem Speaker.
''
'' Mr. Fadnavis said a pro-tem Speaker has never been replaced in the history of India. BJP MLA Kalidas Kolambkar was earlier replaced by the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government, stating that the cabinet has complete authority to name a pro-tem speaker.
''
''Fadnavis added that business was transacted in violation of the Constitution as 'Vande Mataram' was not played to signal the start of proceedings.
''
'' He also claimed that the oath-taking ceremony of Uddhav Thackeray and his six ministers was not as per the rules. Stating that the oath has to be taken as per pro forma, he said no one is allowed to take oath in the name of Balasaheb Thackeray, Sharad Pawar or Sonia Gandhi.
''
