In Gujarat, Union Shipping Minister G K. Vasan today laid the foundation stone of a 600 Crore rupee project for the construction of three jetties at Kandla port. The Minister also inaugurated the country's first mobile harbour cranes and the Gujarat campus of the Indian Martime University at Kandla. Our correspondent reports, that after completion of the construction of the new jetties, the handling of goods at the country's first major Port Kandla will increase by 8 million tonnes.
