Shipping Corporation of India to acquire 25 more vessels

Shipping Corporation of India is to step up its capacity by acquiring 25 more vessels. Orders have been placed to acquire the vessels. According to official sources, the capacity of the corporation will increase to 7.12 million tonnes from the existing 5.81 million tonnes with the induction of new vessels.There are 82 vessels with the Corporation at present. The Shipping Ministry has also advised the Corporation to exercise utmost precaution in financial matters because of the current financial slowdown. The Shipping Corporation had reported a loss of over 140 crore rupees in the first two quarters of this fiscal.
