Shinde: Allegations of V.K.Singh about payment of money to J&K Ministers can be probed if he names them

The Home Minister, Mr. Sushilkumar Shinde has said that Government can probe the allegations made by the former Army Chief, General V.K.Singh that money was transferred to some Ministers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Replying to questions from reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, Mr. Shinde said the retired Army Chief should name the politicians who received money.

General V.K.Singh today elaborated on the statement made by him yesterday saying that the money given to politicians was not meant for their personal or political purpose. It was meant for stability to win the hearts and minds of people and welfare of the people.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Chief and Union Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has demanded a CBI probe into the General Singh's claim. The Party has also urged the retired General to make public the names, who were allegedly paid by the army. The party in a statement said that it will be constrained to take legal action if Singh does not reveal the names.

The Congress dubbed Singh's remarks as irresponsible and not in national interest. It said former Army Chief should not have made such statements after retirement without any substance.

The BJP maintained that washing of dirty linen in public is not good. The party has however clarified that it is not sitting in the judgement over who – Government, Army or General Singh are right or wrong. The party urged Government to handle the highly sensitive matter with discretion.
