Shiela Dikshit visits Commonwealth Games village

The Delhi Chief Minister Mrs. Shiela Dikshit today visited the Commonwealth Games village and took stock of the maintenance and cleanliness facilities at the complex. Her visit came after Centre directed Delhi government to take charge of the Games Village. The Chief Minister took round of all the towers of the village and reviewed the progress of work. The work is expected to be completed soon. Mrs. Sheila Dikshit called for close coordination with the organising committee as players for the games will start arriving from today. 40 officers from Delhi and Nicobar and Andaman Police service have been deployed in the Games Village to oversee the cleanliness drive. Our correspondent adds that every apartment in the Games Village has been connected with optical fibers for making available high speed broadband service including IP TV content on demand and networking solutions. Commonwealth Games venues and athletes village has been locked since midnight. Only people carrying valid passes will have access to these areas now. A four tier security has been put in place to ensure incident free games. CCTVs and other modern gadgets have also been installed to keep a close watch on suspects or anti social elements. Government has launched a system to forecast and showcase air quality at various locations at the games venues. 35 automatic weather stations have also been set up to give venue specific weather forecast in the NCR.
