Shibu Soren to prove his majority in assembly by Monday

Jharkhand Governor M O H Farooq has asked Chief Minister Shibu Soren to prove the majority of his government in the State Assembly by Monday. Raj Bhavan sources said in Ranchi that the Governor summoned Mr Soren last evening and asked him to prove the majority by 31st of this month following the withdrawal of support by the BJP.
Earlier yesterday, BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Raghuvar Das met the Governor and handed over a letter withdrawing his party's support to the state government.
In the 82-member assembly, the Soren government now has support of 25 MLAs, including 18 of its own, five of the AJSU and two others. The BJP has 18 members. The JD(U), which has 2 MLAs, also decided to follow suit and withdraw support to the government.
Expressing surprise over BJP's decision, JMM said that the party chief will choose his allies in the run up to the floor test but did not come clear if any deal was made with Congress. JMM legislative party leader Hemant
Soren told a press conference in Ranchi that the legislative party met yesterday and authorised the Chief Minister to decide on the future shape of his coalition.
With 14 MLAs, Congress is keeping a close watch on the situation. Congress spokesman Radhakrishna Kishore told reporters in Ranchi that if secular parties, including the JMM, send any proposal for formation of a secular dispensation, the party will look into it and place it before the Central leadership.
RJD, which has five MLAs, also said it will wait till a formal proposal came to it from the chief minister before announcing its stand.
