Sheila Dikshit launches convertible rickshaws for homeless rickshaws pullers

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday launched convertible rickshaws for homeless rickshaws pullers in the national capital. The rickshaws are unique as being convertible as a night shelter for homeless rickshaws pullers and the new rickshaws are fitted with bulb and small ceiling fan apart from mosquito net and a battery. ] Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Dikshit said this innovation will go a long way in putting an end to the ongoing practice of spending night at footpaths and road dividers across the city by the rickshaws pullers. She said the rickshaws have been launched as per micro financing principle as the rickshaws pullers will have to submit daily installment of 50 rupees in order to become the owner in due course. The Chief minister said that her government will explore possibilities for grant of any incentive with an aim to make the cost reasonable. AIRcorrespondent reports that the new rickshaws will be known as ‘Sukun’ and it has been designed by the students of St. Stephens College of University of Delhi.
